Can Anxiety or Depression Change How a Person Copes with an Injury or Trauma?
Yes. However, the symptoms of an Anxiety Disorder or a Depressive Disorder are distinct from one another and may benefit from different approaches.
Both, however, share symptoms that can make coping and recovery harder, like problems with concentration and decision-making.
Getting the right diagnosis can lead to treatment to shift these symptoms from unmanageable to manageable. Learn more.
Happiness is Not a Character Trait, It's a Lens. Life is Complex and Unpredictable for Everyone.
Events naturally interrupt our life, sometimes in unexpected ways requiring a new perspective and tools. Learning coping mechanisms and receiving treatment are elements of psychotherapy and a physician’s guidance.
Be aware of triggers and trauma that impact your mood, For example:
- accidents and injuries
- death of a loved one
- life changes like job disruptions, divorce, marriage, relationships and/or parenting.
- illness
- traumatic experiences
- health treatment and surgery
How we deal with these events is different for each person.
The insight and experience of a psychiatrist can put these in context, indicating diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, and a plan to move on to a stable and rewarding future.
Being unhappy should not be dismissed as a weakness or lack of willpower. Seeking therapy and treatment is a sign of a commitment to your health.
As a treater and as a Forensic Psychiatrist, Dr. Weiss investigates with compassion and skill.
Treatment
“Talk Therapy,” and medication (if needed), are proven in many cases to be a powerful aid to overcome psychiatric roadblocks to mental health.
Other non-medication options are specific to particular symptoms or overall health for a better mind and body relationship.
A combination is sometimes the right choice.
Those decisions are best determined between the patient and Dr. Weiss.
Effective treatment is not one-size-fits-all.
Forensic Psychiatry
Dr. Weiss’ opinion was persuasive and rooted in logic and depth. …his experience as a practitioner, psychiatrist and addiction specialist bolsters his opinion.

Dr. Weiss is a patient listener and readily asks intuitive questions to get to the heart of the problem. In a very short period of time he had recommendations for my wife to consider eliminating certain medications that might be causing her some health issues. Her doctors took the advice of Dr. Weiss giving my wife wonderful relief. We are both pleased with the results and impressed with Dr. Weiss.
